Day 23: Psalm 100

Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.

Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.

For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.

In my own journey, there are times when I don’t know exactly how to pray. During these times I often turn to the psalms. Out of the 150 psalms, it seems there is at least one for just about any situation you can think of. In my Bible, this psalm is entitled “A Psalm of Thanksgiving.”

We Christians seem to spend a great deal of time seeking God’s will, and rightfully so. I think we forget sometimes, though, that we have the living, inspired word of God to help us know his will. In 1 Thessalonians 5:18, Paul says that we should give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for us in Christ Jesus.

Regardless of what we face today, we have reason to be grateful. Reflect on this reality: The God who created the universe – who hung the stars in the heavens and separated light from darkness – also created you, and you are his. He is the great shepherd, and we have the unfathomable privilege of being his sheep.
